Holy heatwave, Buffal
o! 🥵 The weather the last few days has been unbelievably hot and humid. The actual temperatures have been in the upper 80s, but with the humidity it has felt much closer to 100°. It has definitely been a challenge for Bella and me since we don’t have central air. We’ve been relying mostly on fans to stay cool, and of course our biggest, most powerful fan decided to quit working last night. Talk about terrible timing! Trying to find a decent-sized replacement fan today turned into quite the adventure.
As much as I feel like I’m melting, my garden is absolutely thriving in this heat! Last night I counted my tomatoes (not including the cherry tomatoes), and I’m officially up to 44 tomatoes! I also have 23 peppers growing. Now I just need those peppers to start getting a little bigger. The tomatoes seem to be growing by the day, so I’m hoping the peppers decide to follow their lead.
This evening I headed out to the garden and harvested a wonderful bundle of fresh herbs. I picked dill, basil, mint, and rosemary, and there’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh herbs straight from the garden. Tomorrow morning I’m hoping to harvest another batch of lettuce. It has to be picked early while it’s still cool outside… although “cool” is a relative term right now. The last two mornings at 5:00 a.m., it was already 80° outside! That’s just crazy.

Here’s hoping this heatwave breaks soon. Until then, Bella and I will be doing our best to stay cool while cheering on the garden as it enjoys every bit of this summer sunshine! 🌿🍅🐾
