So this morning I woke up to a very chilly house. I thought that was odd, considering the furnace has been on since last Friday (yes… I finally caved and turned it on).
When I looked at the thermostat, it read 56 degrees — way too cold for comfort! Right away I knew something was wrong. I tried adjusting the temperature, but nothing happened. The radiators were freezing cold — not even a hint of warmth.
I set the thermostat to “hold” at the current temp, hoping that would stop the boiler from running all day for no reason. Well, when I got home later, the boiler was still running… and the temperature was still 56 degrees.
That’s when I did something I really didn’t want to do — I went into the basement. 😬 (I hate that place.) From what I could tell, everything looked okay, but I’m not sure about the pilot light. It seemed to be lit… but honestly, who knows? What I do know is that the boiler temperature was basically zero.
So here I am — bundled up with Bella under a pile of blankets, waiting until after 8 a.m. to call the heating guy. I can’t fix this myself (and I’d rather not risk blowing up the house trying!).
My plan is to head to work in the morning, call the repair company, and hope they can come out after I’m done. Please send good thoughts — I really can’t afford to replace the boiler. That would cost way too much right now. Like everyone is know right now, surviving in the current economy is difficult, as it is without having to replace a boiler.
For now, it’s just me and Bella, surviving one cold night at a time. ❄️🐾
Until the heat is back on, I’ll be sipping a hot Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea, wrapped in blankets, and pretending it’s all part of the cozy fall aesthetic. 🍂☕💜
