The Colonoscopy Chronicles: Surviving the Prep and the Aftermath 🩺✨

Well friends, here’s the update from my colonoscopy adventure! The last time I checked in, I was about to start drinking the prep liquid — and oh boy, I had no idea what I was in for.

First off, the container was 4 liters. That’s a whole lot of liquid. I was told I could add some Crystal Light to make it more tolerable… yeah, that was a LIE. Nothing could disguise that taste! I had to drink 8 oz every ten minutes until three-quarters of the container was gone, with the remaining portion saved for 4:30 a.m. this morning.

The massive container 🤢

I didn’t actually get sick, but I came very close several times. Besides the obvious “hello toilet, my new best friend” side effect, the prep made me nauseous and gave me the chills. Picture me shivering under heavy blankets with my hoodie up between bathroom runs. Needless to say, sleep was not part of the plan last night. 😩

Once I got to my appointment, things went pretty smoothly. They even took me in early thanks to a cancellation (and honestly, I can see why there was one). My results were good — no new polyps, just the same diverticulitis evidence I already knew about.

Coming out of sedation wasn’t my finest moment though — I tend to be confused and combative until I fully wake up. After a little while in recovery (and a tiny cup of cranberry juice that tasted heavenly after all that fasting), it was time for discharge.

Thankfully, my nephew got me home safely. I made myself some coffee and scrambled eggs — but unfortunately, my stomach wasn’t having it. The nausea returned full force, and neither breakfast nor dinner stayed down. Between the prep, the procedure, and feeling sick, I’ve had maybe three hours of sleep total in the last 24 hours.

Here’s hoping tomorrow is a better day — that I can finally eat without regretting it and that my glucose levels will settle back into range now that I can take my meds again.

For now, it’s just me and my new BFF: ginger ale 🫶
…and hopefully, I can make it through the Bills game! 💙❤️🏈
