Sauce Day 2024

🌟 Today was the day—Sauce Day 2024! 🍅 I kicked things off at 7 AM while the morning was still cool. First up, I had to wash, core, and quarter all the tomatoes.

Just 1 of the 3 pots of quartered tomatoes

Then came the tricky part—figuring out how to attach the veggie strainer attachment to my KitchenAid mixer. It was my first time using it, but wow, it was worth every penny! It made a job that usually takes me 4-5 hours only take 1.5 hours! 😮

I made a mess!

Next, I seasoned the sauce and waited for it to boil before letting it simmer for an hour. I set a timer on my phone and took some time to read, taking a break every 10 minutes to stir. The house smelled absolutely divine while the sauce was cooking, and I may have snuck a taste…or two! 😋

After that, it was time to sanitize the jars and prep the water bath canners. I filled the jars and processed them for about 35-40 minutes each. It took me three rounds to get through all the jars! Bella was thrilled when I finally finished after 7.5 hours, and we could head out for our afternoon walk. 🐾

Processing

The best part of the day? Hearing the satisfying “ping” of all the lids sealing! 🎶 In the end, I ended up with 17 quart-sized and 8 pint-sized jars. I can’t wait to share my sauce with my parents—they look forward to it every year! 🥫❤️

Now, after a long and exhausting day, Bella and I are winding down in front of the TV for a well-deserved night of relaxation. 📺💤
